Job overview

We are looking for a Subject Leader of Art in a new school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development.  Ada Lovelace Church of England High School is a new 6FE local comprehensive school for pupils aged 11-18.  The school opened in September 2018 and currently has a smaller intake (of 125 Year 7 students) for its first two years whilst co-located at William Perkin CE High School in Greenford.  This figure increases to 196 students per year group when the school moves to its permanent site in Ealing, and the school will have 1,330 students when full.

The new post-holder will be an enthusiastic Artist who is a strong classroom practitioner with a commitment to achieving the highest standards both academically and in terms of engagement with Art.  At KS3 we aim to provide our students will the necessary tools and skills to so that when they progress into KS4/KS5 they are able to demonstrate their ideas creatively and independently.  They are taught the traditional techniques of drawing and painting, as well as gaining skills in textiles and ceramics.  It is important to us that our students are given the opportunity to explore different media and each project focusses on a set of core content to prepare them for GCSE and beyond.  Art history forms 50% of their grade for each assessment.  Our students are able to appreciate and discuss artworks confidently having the knowledge and understanding of the context.  They learn how meaning is communicated through art and how artists and craftspeople are able to express themselves through use of media.  Students are also taught the importance of Art in the 21st century and how the Arts can lead to careers in creative as well as science based industries.

This is an exciting role for an enthusiastic Art teacher who seeks to take his/her first steps towards leading their own department.  Ada Lovelace works collaboratively with other schools within the Trust – in particularly with our sister school, William Perkin CE High School – and there will therefore be significant opportunities for joint working and the Subject Lead will have access to the curriculum and resources already in place.  S/he will be joining a small but ambitious and energetic staff group that seeks to deliver an outstanding curriculum, and will be well supported by an experienced Senior Leadership Team.

We encourage prospective candidates to visit the school and if you would like to arrange to do this please contact Hannah Cooper, the Head of Art at William Perkin, at hcooper@williamperkin.org.uk

Ada Lovelace Church of England High School opened in September 2018 and has had a smaller intake (125 students per year) for two years while co-located at William Perkin Church of England High School - an Ofsted Outstanding school - in Greenford. The school moved to its brand new permanent site in north Ealing in September 2020. It now has six Year Groups with a total of 950 students. The school will have 1,330 students when full. The school has an excellent reputation and is rated “Outstanding” by Ofsted (March 23). Ada Lovelace also benefits from specialist provision and support from within the family of Trust schools.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum from Yr 7 –Yr 13 which has been devised by staff within the four schools and we have a thriving 6th form co-ordinated across 3 of the school sites. The Trust is also the hub of Teach West London and prides itself on high quality, peer-led CPD within a dynamic culture of self-improvement.
