Job overview
We are looking for an ambitious colleague with vision, determination and enthusiasm to lead our Design and Technology department here at Fearnhill. You must have a passion to see every student achieve to the best of their ability and be resolute in challenging barriers to their success.
As subject leader, you will lead and manage all aspects of the technology curriculum in our well-equipped suite of workshops. You will benefit from high quality, tailored CPD as part of our partnership with the North Herts Teaching Alliance.
You will be:
- An excellent classroom practitioner with an understanding of how children learn
- Able to teach Resistant Materials to GCSE and Product Design to A Level
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
You will be responsible for:
- Achievement and progress of students in the Technology department, working as part of the science and technology faculty
- Leading a small team of experienced and dedicated staff with specialisms in food technology, textiles, child development and graphics
Fearnhill is a very successful learning community and in 2016 was rated 9th out of Hertfordshire’s 76 secondary schools in terms of its ‘Progress 8’ score of +0.49. Ofsted recognised in June 2015 that “Attitudes to learning are positive. Students interact well with their teachers and the quality of relationships in the classroom is an important factor in the increased rate of academic progress seen across the school.”

About Fearnhill School
Fearnhill School is a mixed, comprehensive secondary school with sixth form in Hertfordshire serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Letchworth Garden City has approximately 520 students on roll.
Fearnhill School was built for Hertfordshire County Council and has facilities including a music suite, drama studio, nine fully-size teaching laboratories and good IT provision. A sports centre is also on site, complete with a gymnasium and tennis courts.
