Located in the beautiful town of Tervuren, near the university city of Leuven and the capital city of Brussels, BSB is a not for profit, inclusive fee-paying international school with 1,350 students from approximately 70 countries. Whilst British-based, it is uniquely adapted to the needs of our international and multicultural student body. We are a successful, harmonious community committed to a vibrant and engaging holistic education for our students. There is an Early Childhood Centre for children aged 1-3. Our Primary School offers a bespoke enquiry-based curriculum. Students in Year 10 & 11 study for (I)GCSE and BTEC courses. Post-16 students can choose from three internationally recognised pre-university examination courses: English A Levels, International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or BTEC.

With an excellent record of academic achievement, BSB students go on to attend a wide range of top universities across the globe.

We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced teachers who can bring a real enthusiasm to the school.  Applicants must have the qualities to successfully lead and manage Food and Nutrition in an 11-18 school.

The successful candidate will be able to teach Food, Preparation and Nutrition to examination level in GCSE and also deliver the BTEC Hospitality course. They will be also willing and able to teach Food and Nutrition and Textile classes in the 11-14 age range. Experience of international education at Secondary level would also be welcome.

Food and Nutrition Department

Food and Nutrition sit within the wider Science and Technology Faculty and is managed by the Deputy Faculty Leader who also leads and manages Design Technology. Staff work closely to deliver consistent Food and Nutrition and Textiles programmes. Teaching of these subjects at KS3 is part of a carousel arrangement and staff are willingly able to teach in both subject areas with Textiles led by its own subject leader. All students in Years 7-9 study Design and Technology, Food and Nutrition and Textiles. At examination level, Food and Nutrition students follow the GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition (AQA) route. In Post-16 we offer BTEC International Level 3 in Hospitality. The department has two extremely well-equipped food preparation rooms which are well resourced and there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere for students. Currently, there are four teachers delivering Food and Nutrition and Textiles who work cooperatively in a close-knit and positive team.  The department has the support of a full-time technician.

Class sizes are small, maximum 11 students at KS3 and 16 in GCSE classes. The department has the support of a full-time technician.

Profile:

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience teaching in the British system – either in the UK or internationally – across the Secondary School age range with experience teaching Years 7 – 13 (ages 11-18).

The successful candidate should:

  • be attuned to current developments in the teaching of Food and Nutrition; 
  • be appreciative of students’ differing cultural and linguistic backgrounds; 
  • be actively involved in professional learning within the department, and across departments where opportunities arise, including after-school meetings, relevant courses and professional learning days; 
  • demonstrate the highest standards in terms of learning and teaching; 
  • be willing and able to contribute wholeheartedly to the social and personal development of students and to the extra-curricular life of the school; and 
  • be willing to take an active part in school trips, both residential and day visits;
