Job overview

Do you wish to work in a school committed to the development of all staff in its care?

Do you wish to lead an aspirational and collaborative department which is improving the life chances of all pupils?

Do you relish challenges?

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 Christian non-denominational comprehensive academy for boys with a mixed sixth form. Ours is a lively and vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the opportunities and advantages of an inner city school.  The school was confirmed as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in early 2017 with further recognition of our outstanding curriculum and governance.

"You are ambitious for the pupils at the school. You are proud of their achievements and strive to ensure they do the best they can." OFSTED 2017

We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, dedicated Subject Leader of Modern Languages (Spanish, French and Community Languages) who displays and expects excellence. Modern Foreign Languages are very popular with our pupils, with good and rapidly increasing numbers selecting Spanish as a GCSE option. Students are offered the opportunity to attend a trip abroad which is always a popular choice. This year pupils will visit Tokyo and Madrid. We are also proud of the excellent reputation we have for training languages teachers, who comment on the supportive nature of the team and the opportunities they have had to develop.

An incentive is available for an exceptional candidate wishing to take on additional responsibilities.

“Leaders have designed the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils of all abilities.  The most able pupils sit GCSE examinations early and, if they meet their target early, can start A Level courses in Year 11”. Ofsted 2017.

We are not complacent and are restless in our ambition to become better. We are confident standards continue to improve.

You like us, will share our belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting. You will have a proven track record of delivering excellent outcomes through high quality teaching, regular monitoring and collaboration with colleagues.

We believe in developing our staff and have a dynamic and supportive management team. We also spend much of our time looking at what we can learn from other successful schools. The focus of our CPD programme draws on what research and pedagogical literature tells us works best in the classroom and we believe in coaching every teacher to be their very best. We benefit from a range of networks in Westminster and Southwark and we are at an exciting time in our school development.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake a criminal record check via the DBS.
