Job overview

We are looking for a Subject Leader of Music in a new school which offers excellent opportunities for professional development.  The new post-holder will be an enthusiastic Musician who is a strong classroom practitioner with a commitment to achieving the highest standards both academically and in terms of musical engagement.  The school is part of a Trust which places a very strong emphasis on Music and has established routines for whole school singing and for ‘wider opportunities’-style instrumental teaching (which currently forms the basis of the Music lessons in Years 7 & 8).  As a member of a Church of England Trust, the school also sees Music as providing an essential strand of SMSC and we have an in house team of peripatetic staff supported by a Head of Music Specialism and music administration team who will support the Subject Lead with the wider learning offer.

This is an exciting role for an enthusiastic Music teacher who seeks to take his/her first steps towards leading their own department.  Ealing Fields works collaboratively with other schools within the Trust – in particularly with our sister school, Twyford CE High School, which has a very strong reputation for Music and serves as a hub for Music within the Trust.  There will therefore be significant opportunities for joint working and the Subject Lead will have access to the curriculum and resources already in place.  From September 2019 the school will be admitting 10% of student based on musical aptitude and this will also help to boost the levels of performance and musical engagement.  This will give opportunities to develop a bespoke ‘music scholars’ programme in the school and collaborate with Twyford that also admits specialist music places into Year 7.  S/he will be joining a small but ambitious and energetic staff group that seeks to deliver an outstanding curriculum, and will be well supported by an experienced Senior Leadership Team.

We encourage prospective candidates to visit the school and if you would like to arrange to do this please contact the Associate Headteacher Mark Bedford at mbedford@ealingfields.org.uk

For more information about the school please visit the Twyford Trust and Ealing Fields websites.  For more information about the role please see the Job Description on the Twyford Trust website at:  http://www.twyfordacademies.org.uk/recruitment/vacancies

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach Music to GCSE
  • Ability to lead & enthuse students in whole school singing
  • Working knowledge of appropriate specialist ICT (e.g. Cubase /Sibelius)
  • An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments

  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy, creativity and commitment to extra-curricular activities and events
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school

About Ealing Fields High School

Ealing Fields High School was opened as a Free School in 2016, and became part of the Twyford CE Academies Trust on 1stSeptember 2017. Ealing Fields is the smallest of the Trust schools, with only 150 in each Year Group and therefore has a very compact community identity. The staff community is very positive, highly motivated and fully engaged in professional development. The school moved to its brand-new permanent sitein Northfields in September 2020 and achieved a Progress 8 score of +1.34 with its first set of public examinations in 2022 which reflects our relentless commitment to providing the best possible education for all students.

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact CoE MAT which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision. The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum from Yr 7 –Yr 13 which has been devised by staff within the four schools and we have a thriving 6th form co-ordinated across 3 of the school sites. The Trust is also the hub of Teach West London and prides itself on high quality, peer-led CPD within a dynamic culture of self-improvement.
