About Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys

Woolwich Poly is located in Thamesmead, a thriving multi-cultural and diverse area in the London Borough of Greenwich, where around 65% of our students have English as an additional language; Ofsted noted our outstanding ethos and curriculum.”This school has the best ethos, personal development and well being of any I’ve ever seen” We are also an inclusive community, 35% of our boys have special needs; we gained the Inclusion Chartermark several years ago.
Woolwich Polytechnic is a proud member of the PiXL group (Partners in Excellence). PiXL was formed with the aim of supporting and developing the GCSE results of thousands of students in many schools across London.

We are an inclusive school who celebrates its culture and diversity. We believe in giving young people the support they require, whatever their abilities, background or circumstances. The school’s success is based on thriving partnerships between pupils, parents, staff and governors. No one group works in isolation.

Being an all-boys' school, with a mixed post-16 centre, we are proud of the fact that our outstanding pastoral system adds to our ethos and success. Our post-16 partnership allows us to welcome both young men and women from all schools and backgrounds to contribute to our further success and expansion of our post-16 centre. We understand the pressures facing the students and we have a dedicated team of career specialists and personal counsellors to help advise and guide students throughout their time at the school where required.

All staff at the Poly are supported by a staff development programme and by effective line leadership and performance management processes. We have many staff that have gained internal promotions and made rapid career progression. This reflects on our ability to develop staff and reward outstanding contributions.  Indeed, our focus on professional development and maximising success has led to the recent establishment of Co-Headship, something that has increased our leadership capacity even more.
