The Prospect Trust is a leading Multi-Academy Trust in the South of England, with an aim of providing outstanding education for all learners within a family of local academies. There are currently three academies within the Trust: The Sixth Form College Farnborough, Tomlinscote School and Frimley Church of England Junior School.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Media and Film Department within an outstanding Sixth Form College. We are seeking a proactive individual to provide an excellent level of support to both staff and students in the College.

The College will, as one of the region’s most distinguished providers of 16-19 education, be at the heart of this undertaking sharing expertise, skill and leadership.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and well-qualified graduate able to teach Digital Media in a consistently successful curriculum area.  Candidates should be willing to teach on the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Digital Media qualification. Please state in your application if you are able to teach in any other related subject area.

The Curriculum Area of Media and Film

The Media and Film Department consists of 10 specialist teachers who deliver the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Digital Media qualification, A Level Media and A Level Film Studies to approximately 550 students. Alongside the teaching staff a team of technicians support students in the delivery of skills in the subject area and deliver enrichment opportunities. 

The Level 3 Cambridge Technical in Digital Media is offered as an Extended Certificate (Single option) or Diploma (Double option) over two years, with approximately 150 students across these courses. 

The Media and Film Department provides strong industry recognition and links with its work experience with external clients and the “Creative Kickstart” initiative, making students aware of progression opportunities across a range of subject areas.

The Post of Vocational Digital Media Tutor

We are looking for a teacher who displays the following characteristics: 

  • A thoughtful and self-reflective approach to pedagogy; 
  • A desire to be an outstanding classroom practitioner 
  • A passion for the subject; 
  • Excellent ICT skills that makes learning visible in the classroom  
  • Excellent subject knowledge and a desire to build on this; and an 
  • Enthusiasm for working with 16-19 year old students.

You should be capable of delivering the subject to a range of student abilities.

In addition we are looking for a candidate who recognises the critical importance of developing our students’ literacy and numeracy skills and will implement this as an integral part of their teaching.   

Candidates will be part of a team where resources and ideas are freely shared for the greater good of the department. The successful applicant is expected to be flexible, not afraid to meet challenges, and innovative in their approach to curriculum delivery.

How do we support you?

As a new member of staff you will receive plenty of support from your colleagues both from the department and from the wider college community.  This will include: 

  • a mentor to help you through the first year (in particular); 
  • support from your curriculum manager and director of faculty; and 
  • an extensive programme for all new staff to help induct you into College life as well as to develop your approach to teaching

We regard our staff as our most important resource and will do our utmost to support you throughout your time at the College.

For graduates we will organise and fund a teaching qualification – usually a PGCE – a saving for most graduates of at least £9,000. In addition we offer Qualified Teacher Status (i.e. completion of the statutory induction period) through Hampshire Local Authority and in partnership with one of our local schools.

The Sixth Form College Farnborough is a sixth form college located in the town of the same name, in Hampshire. Since September 2017, The College has been part of The Prospect Trust, a multi-academy trust. The College had originally been a grammar school founded in 1936, becoming a full sixth form college in 1992. The college is co-educational, with over 3900 students aged 16-19. Since its establishment as a sixth form, the college has undergone extensive redevelopment and modernisation, and as a result can boast of a wide range of high-quality teaching and recreational facilities such as a brand-new purpose-built teaching block opened in 2010 containing teaching facilities for physics, electronics and photography among others. Around a third of the students at the college are on mixed programmes of study combining A levels and vocational courses. The college offers 33 A-level courses, with the largest being in psychology and mathematics. Of the 11 vocational courses, the largest are in criminology and business.
