Clifton College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls in Bristol.  As well as delivering a high quality education programme to its students, Clifton College also runs a Summer Language School programme during July/August each year, inviting students aged between 8 - 17 from all over the world to come and experience life in a British boarding school, learn English, and take part in many sport/drama/arts & crafts/teambuilding activities and excursions.

We are looking for highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals, with a keen interest in sport/drama/arts & crafts/team building activities, to assist us in delivering of this fantastic programme for 7 weeks over the summer period.  We have established, over many years of operations, a fantastic reputation for high-quality staff members who develop great relationships with students and overseas Group Leaders alike, and help us deliver a fantastic programme.

Applicants would ideally have experience in running sport/drama/arts & crafts/teambuilding activities for children, but we are also looking for strong applicants who can show initiative under pressure, engage with our students, and can bring enthusiasm to our team and the programme.

Why work on the Clifton College Summer Language School?

We specialise in English language courses for students aged 8 - 17 and concentrate on a balanced mix between learning in the classroom and learning during activities and on excursions. We are dedicated to giving students a memorable, enjoyable and, above all, safe experience whenever they stay at Clifton College.

Our staff are without doubt our most valuable asset and our students frequently say the staff are one of the best things about their vacation in the UK. We welcome new applicants but also value our returning staff, and to both we offer an attractive package that includes:

A competitive weekly salary including holiday pay

Full-board accommodation within the College boarding houses

Usage of the College Sports facilities over your employment

How do we recruit our staff?

All prospective staff must complete our official Job Application Form and send to us along with a copy of their CV. In line with safer recruitment for roles involving responsibility for, or substantial access to under 18s, all gaps in employment history must be explained, references will be followed up and all staff will undergo an Enhanced DBS check (or overseas equivalent).

We will then invite successful applicants to an Assessment Day. Applicants are recommended to read the job description for the role they are applying for in order to best prepare for the Assessment Day. Candidates successful at this Assessment Day are then offered a position, subject to receipt of three satisfactory references, relevant safeguarding checks, and proof of identity.

Clifton College leads the way as one of the best Public Boarding Schools in the country. We offer day places, flexi and full boarding places. Welcoming boys and girls from 2 to 18, Clifton becomes the school every pupil needs it to be, preparing them for life in the real world, not in a ‘bubble’. We are known for academic excellence, myriad opportunities, state of the art facilities, superb pastoral care and expert staff who deliver the very best learning and development. We provide a richly diverse and connected school environment, representative of the real world. Our pupils mature into individuals who are ambitious, open-minded and spirited.

Bristol businessman Dr John Percival, who championed the benefits of science, diversity and the education of women, founded Clifton College in 1862. The College has since fostered the talents of students including General Douglas Haig and Olympic hockey gold medallist Lily Owsley. The NSPCC had its first meeting on the school’s grounds.

Clifton College Upper School is housed in historical buildings, such as the Grade II-listed Percival Library, but it boasts state-of-the-art sporting facilities, including 24 tennis courts and an Olympic-standard hockey pitch.
