Vacancy for p.t teacher of Biology at Sutton Grammar School
Who we are looking for
Due to expansion of the science team, the School seeks an additional part time teacher of biology to inspire pupils from KS3 up to A-level.
Sutton Grammar School is a five form (5 x 27) entry boys’ selective school that is heavily over-subscribed. There are 934 on roll with 289 in the sixth form, including 19 girls in the Lower Sixth, having this year welcomed girls into the sixth form. It is small enough to be friendly and welcoming to pupils and staff, yet large enough to support a wide and varied academic curriculum.
The school has excellent facilities and with its central Sutton site (South London) is well placed to serve the surrounding area. It is highly regarded in the community and committed to excellence for all in a caring environment.
The extra-curricular life of the school is rich and varied, including great strength in music and drama, sport and many other activities. We are very keen on delivering a well-rounded education and providing outlets for students’ creativity and performing skills. STEM project work is especially successful - e.g. the 2018 UK Senior Scientist of the Year is from Sutton Grammar School.
Our Ofsted grading is ‘outstanding’.
The science faculty comprises of thirteen science teachers and a team of technicians including one dedicated to supporting STEM projects. A-level numbers are growing and to meet the demand for science teaching we need roughly another half-time teacher (say 0.4 – 0.6FTE). Taking the expertise of the rest of the team into account we need this extra teacher to be a biology specialist. We could support a newly qualified teacher and if other skills were also offered e.g. the ability to teach games, the part time fraction could be more than 0.6
