Position Information 

Charlestown East Public School has an enrolment of 339 students enrolled in 13 mainstream classes and 21 students enrolled in the three multicategorical classes. The student population consists of 28 Aboriginal students and 17 students with a language background other than English. The school was established in 1959 and is located on the east side of Charlestown bordered by James, Bula and Wales Streets. There are expansive grounds that include a mini netball court, basketball court, soccer field, fixed equipment, a vegetable garden and outdoor learning area. There is plenty of natural and man made shade areas and facilities to accommodate students with special needs. The school is in close proximity to local sporting fields, the Fernleigh Track and Charlestown Pool. There are five permanent classroom blocks that include a library, three demountables, a hall and an administration block.

The school is proud of its welcoming, positive and inclusive school culture. The vision for the school is shared by the staff, students and parents. The Tree of Values program underpins the culture of the school and is taught explicitly across the whole school year. It is communicated broadly across the school ensuring that all members of the school community understand the expectations. The teaching staff are professional and caring and are focused on catering for the needs of all students and strive towards continual improvement. The P&C is an active parent body who works closely with the school to maintain a sense of community and raise funds to improve the school environment and ensure that classrooms are well-resourced.

 

  
Specific Selection Criteria 

 

  1. Approval to teach infants and primary (K-6) with demonstrated capacity to develop a positive, engaging and inclusive classroom learning environment that caters for the needs of all learners.
  1. Demonstrated capacity to embed Visible Learning into high quality, explicit and differentiated literacy and numeracy programs.
  2. The ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive and authentic relationships with students, staff, parents and the wider community.
  3. A commitment to enrich opportunities for students by demonstrating a willingness to develop, coordinate and implement whole school extracurricular programs, including sport, public speaking and debating and music.
  
Conditions 

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
