Job overview

We are a small family run independent school for students with special educational needs aged between 11 and 16 years old. As we are a SEN school so have students with various educational  needs as well as looked after children who all present with different challenges. Most of our students have ASD diagnosis along with SEMH needs. Lessons do have to be tailored to suit individual student needs which may be putting in more scaffolding for a particular student, giving information in advance or key terms at the start of a lesson, breaking down learning into small chunks and repetition of learning due to difficulties in recall of information. Therefore experience of teaching and managing the behaviour of LAC children and children with special needs is preferable. The school is part of a busy equine yard which forms part of our education for our students which is managed by our Equine teaching staff.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Teacher to start as soon as possible. The successful applicant will be required to plan and deliver exciting and engaging lessons to our students following our curriculum. All our lessons are 30 minutes in length and look to follow a consistent routine. As a school we use Google Mail and Drive and therefore store all our planning and school documents on Google Drive. Our lessons are to be planned using Google slides which you would be required to create. Therefore being able to use computers is important. Our classes are small (between 2 and 5 in a class) and marking based strongly on feedback to students. We operate a positive behaviour policy with our students maintaining close contact with parents to help manage behaviour in school. Applicants will be required to teach multiple subjects to our students so experience or interest in other subjects is of interest to us.

We require applicants to:

  • Be able and willing to plan lessons along our long term curriculum plan as outlined in our Teaching and Learning strategies using Google Slides following our set structure.
  • Have some experience working with LAC children and children with special needs.
  • Have some experience of managing challenging behaviour in LAC children and children with special needs.
  • Uphold our Behaviour strategies and help students to improve their behaviour in a positive manner.
  • Be flexible to fit themselves and their lessons to meet the range of needs of our students  and to try to get the best out of them.
  • Be Innovative and interactive with Lessons maintaining high standards of teaching and professionalism.
  • Be Available to provide sickness cover where needed and to attend additional training or meetings which may be arranged outside of school hours.
  • Be willing to take additional training
  • Be flexible within their role depending on needs of the school and students
  • Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and to promote the wellbeing of students at all times

We review candidates on receipt of application and we will interview applicants prior to the job closing.
