Job overview

Are you an ambitious, enthusiastic teacher with knowledge or experience of the English National Curriculum and experience or interest in teaching A Level? Are you determined to follow an international career path? This position could be the perfect match for you. We are currently looking for a full-time Teacher of Computing to join our Senior School Voorschoten (SSV) campus, just outside of The Hague, from 1 September 2019. The ability to teach some mathematics in Years 7-9 would be an advantage.

Find out all you need to know about working for the BSN Senior School Voorschoten  in our recruitment brochure.

Why you?

This is a new post, due to expansion and the successful candidate will join two other computing teachers in the delivery of our curriculum.  The BSN is a 1:1 device school with all students and teachers using Surface Pro. CANVAS is our VLE.

Why this role?

Computing is a vibrant and growing subject in the Senior School.  Pupils in Key Stage 3 receive one lesson per week, covering a mix of Information Technology, Digital Literacy and Computer Science strands. In Year 7, students follow an Introductory Computing Driving License course, which includes basic ICT skills, physical computing elements with microbits and robots, and app development.  Programming is a key skill for all year groups, with repeated exposure to it in a variety of forms ranging from Blocks coding to Processing and Python. In Year 8, students explore web development as well as Scratch programming and Artificial Intelligence.  By Year 9, students are following a preparatory course for GCSE Computer Science that allows them to gauge their interest in following it through to GCSE, for which we enjoy a healthy intake. In the Sixth Form, students can take A-Level Computer Science as a linear course over two years, which includes an NEA Project stage.  GCSE students have five lessons over the two-week timetable period, and A-Level students have ten.

Extra-curricular clubs on offer include coding, robotics and Blender animation.  Physical computing is developing and we are extending our Schemes of Work to include microbits, Raspberry Pi, and other simple robotics devices.  We have recently enjoyed two very successful Computing trips to London to enhance our students’ learning.  We would be particularly interested in innovative and dynamic teachers who could contribute to these aspects of Computing in the Lower School, as well as being competent and capable at engagingly teaching programming skills to all students.

Applications should reach us by midnight (CET) on: 3 February 2019
