Apprenticeships are a key destination for our students progressing form year 11 and 13. As such, we have been developing our own in house apprenticeships to support these next steps. We have been running and delivering the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Construction and the Built Environment – Civil Engineering since September 2015. In September 2017 have launched the Level 4 HNC in Construction and the Built Environment – Civil Engineering. Both the Level 3 and 4 qualifications are delivered in partnerships with our key education sponsor, Activate Learning along with Peter Brett Associates and other Civil Engineering Business partners.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Construction and the Built Environment – Civil Engineering to this Outstanding University Technical College (UTC). The role is part of the planned staff expansion of the teaching staff at the UTC as we grow from our current 450 Students 2017 to 560 in September 2019 (this represents the capacity of the UTC).
The UTC opened in September 2013 in a newly refurbished building, which replicates a business environment with state-of–the-art facilities and judged by Ofsted as Outstanding in every category in May 2015 in only its second year of operation. This is not only a relatively new school but also a new approach to educating 14-19 year olds; which is possibly the most exciting change in the education landscape in decades.
All students at UTC Reading specialise in either Engineering or Computer Science; at 14 they will also study a broad and balanced curriculum. At Post 16, the curriculum becomes more specialist with A levels in Physics, Computing, Further Computing, Computer Science, Product Design, Business, Biology and Chemistry being studied alongside their specialist BTEC Level 3 course in Engineering or Computing with a handful of globally recognised qualifications to prepare them for the workplace. At capacity, we will be educating 560 students who will all have a passion for Engineering or Computer Science; it is a truly inspirational environment.
