Tor View School are looking to recruit an outstanding Teacher to join our Teaching team!

We are looking for an ambitious, energetic and committed teacher who will expand the learning experiences of our pupils.  

The successful candidate will be teaching and supporting our young people who may have autism, emotional behavioural difficulties, ADHD and associated complex needs.

Are you an inspirational Teacher who is passionate about enhancing the provision for children and young people with special educational needs? Would you be excited to lead the ‘Creative Arts’ curriculum area across the school and secure improvements in the Art and Drama subject areas while leading by example as an excellent classroom practitioner?

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher who is committed to providing a welcoming, stimulating learning experience for all the pupils at our school. We are looking for a Teacher of the arts to join our team.

Tor View School is a very special school that is expanding its capacity to enable more young people with Autism, trauma related interruptions, communication needs and learning difficulties to access an appropriate curriculum in a wonderful environment in the heart of Devon. With typical class sizes of 4-6 we are able to provide the care, attention, time and dedication to all of the young people to enable them to access education and reach their individual goals and aspirations.

To be successful you will be a creative, nurturing individual dedicated to ensuring that students’ needs are met, providing them with a positive learning journey and helping them to achieve their aspirations. You will need to have experience of adapting lessons to make them accessible to all pupils while ensuring a high level of challenge. The school uses the TIS approach to underpin the learning environment and curriculum delivery and you will be well supported to use this within your own practice.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a Teacher who wishes to work in a unique environment. The role will expose you to challenging situations involving pupils with significant Special Educational Needs; therefore, experience of working with students with Autism and complex needs would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be a qualified teacher and ideally have experience of teaching and supporting young people within SEN, along with the following characteristics:


Resilience – We support some of the most vulnerable children in society who have varying degrees of emotional behavioural difficulties, autism, ADHD and associated difficulties so there will be times where your resilience is challenged. 


Communication – Communicating with our young people is vital to understand their needs. Good teamwork and communication plays a key part in ensuring important information is relayed to other staff.


Organisation – You will have experience of organising, planning and teaching well-structured lessons tailored to the needs of the pupils as well as monitoring each students learning needs, adapting teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of each pupil.


Caring – Our young people require the best care we can offer. If you are a naturally caring and compassionate person, this is the role for you.


Attentive – No two tasks will be the same so being attentive to understand the needs of the young people we support is vital

Tor View School is a newly developed school, opening in 2018. They are a school that creates a culture of excellence and team work. As a diverse school, Tor View in Tavistock specialises in high quality day and residential educational provisions for children aged between 7-19 with autism and/or complex learning needs. Tor View is part of Devon and Cornwall Services in the Southern Pennisula, which includes Quay View School in Bere Alston and four children's homes situated in local communities in Devon and Cornwall.
