Enhanced Resource Provision
Permanent, Full time
MPS/UPR + SEN point 1 (£2,384)
Closing date: 9am, Monday 20th February 2023
Interviews will be held week commencing 27th February 2023
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated qualified teacher to work in our new enhanced resource provision (ERP) from September 2023 (An earlier start could be accommodated).
Huntington ERP is a specialist provision for children and young people who require a supportive and nurturing learning environment to reach their potential. We will provide a specialist education for those children and young people with social interaction and communication differences and related social anxiety. This provision has been designed for children and young people who have enjoyed a more mainstream primary education but find the secondary school environment overwhelming.
Children and young people will be taught in small groups for the majority of the school day but will access the mainstream school at Huntington for some lessons, with the number of lessons dependent on strengths and specific interests. The enhanced support will focus on building confidence in social interactions in a nurturing environment, to gain confidence in themselves, become more independent and progress their learning to ensure successful outcomes for adult life.
All children and young people will have an EHCP with a primary need of Communication and Interaction (with and without a diagnosis of autism) and are likely to have had support at primary focussed on self-esteem, social anxiety and managing their environment. They will be working at National Curriculum levels similar to that of their peers. In the first phase of the build, we will be making a class for Y7 and Y8 children supported by a teacher and an assistant. Over the three year build, this will become a three class ERP for CYP from Y7 to Y11. Due to the nature of the building and the function of the ERP, there are limited opportunities for any 1:1 work and this ERP may be unsuitable for children with a considerable amount of 1:1 described in their plan.
This is an exciting opportunity and the successful candidate must have a desire to promote the development of children and young people with autism and SLCN within the ERP, providing advice, support and specialist teaching from agreed need. You should have experience of teaching students with special educational needs and either have (or be willing to gain) an additional qualification in teaching children with SLCN and Autism.

National Research School
We are a designated an EEF/IEE Research School. Huntington plays a crucial role in this DfE initiative and will provide colleagues with great professional development opportunities.
Research Schools aim to lead the way in the use of evidence-based practice. Through the network we share what they know about putting research into practice, and support schools in their region to make better use of evidence to inform their teaching and learning so that they really make a difference in the classroom.
Becoming a Research School is an exciting development that will help us to support teachers and school leaders in our region, and nationally, at a time of turmoil and increasingly challenging curricula and assessment. We see our role as providing support tools and training to better inform school improvement and improve student outcomes.
"The school has a well-thought-out professional development programme for staff, which is supported effectively by the Research School. As a result, staff are experts in their subject areas. The school ensures that staff are supported in their development and learning. Staff apply relevant subject and pedagogical research. This benefits all pupils." - Ofsted Nov 2023
