The German International School Sydney (GISS) is currently seeking a Teacher for Junior Secondary (GISS curriculum - a combination of NSW and German curriculum).

GISS is a small international school offering a bilingual education programme (German and English) from Preschool to the bilingual IB-Diploma. It is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and is registered by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) and, the Federal Republic of Germany as a German School Abroad. 

The school is a highly reputable co-educational school that has a rich history of quality education and aims to provide an enjoyable workplace for its staff. GISS achieved “Excellent German School Abroad” status in September 2017 and was awarded 14 commendations in our latest IB Evaluation in November 2018. 

We are ideally looking for a bilingual (English/ German) teacher who has prior experience teaching the junior secondary curriculums of Germany and/or NSW and who has experience in teaching Music, French and Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DAF). 

The language of instruction for Music and Deutsch als Fremdsprache (DAF) in Junior Secondary is German. 

Applicants are required to have current NESA teacher accreditation (or be eligible for accreditation), current Working with Children Check, the right to work in Australia.

Facilities

Located on a 16,000 square metre property, the educational facility consists of eight building following the natural slope and landscape of the property. The school has a library, sports hall, multifunction room, a mobile IT lab, and science, art and music rooms. The school uses the nearby Terrey Hills Swim School for part of its physical education program.

Curriculum

The focus of our curriculum – which combines the New South Wales Syllabus and the one of the German State Thüringen while following the NSW school calendar year – are languages, math and the sciences. Students can be enrolled without prior knowledge of either the German or English language. Our content and language integrated learning methods allows all students to be taught according to their language skill set. Our immersion approach also leads to a high bilingual proficiency in both languages.

In Years 11 and 12 we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) which is recognised worldwide as the best university preparation programme currently available to students completing post-secondary education. I am proud to say that in recent years our IB students continuously achieved IB scores above world average.

Furthermore, our highly qualified and dedicated team of teachers guide and support every student to develop their full academic potential and to become competent, responsible and independent adults.
