Values and vision

Portree High School is proud of its Gaelic heritage and values the local dimension to the educational experience it provides. The school aims to work hard to ensure that it takes full advantage of what it sees as a very supportive community. By consulting widely with its partners and stakeholders, it aims to give the very best opportunities to its students. It wishes to do this by regularly evaluating the school’s progress through its parent council, pupil council, learning council and through parental evaluation sheets. Importance is also placed on creating an ethos in which hard work is valued and self-discipline and respect for others are evident.

Education Scotland

“Pupils’ creativity and awareness of traditional culture was well developed through the young quilters group, and through playing pipes and drums. A significant number of pupils were involved in the local and national mods which involved singing, drama, poetry, story-telling, and performing with pipes, the clarsach and the fiddle. The school effectively promoted attendance at after-school clubs, including revision clubs, through the provision of snacks and transport.”
