We know that helping shape students’ lives and turning aspirations to reality have rewards that include, but transcend academic excellence. At all Ortu Schools, children and young people experience a stimulating, challenging and supportive learning journey through their primary, secondary and post-secondary years. Staff and parents work hard together to create a caring and mutually respectful ethos to prepare students well for the demands of the 21st Century. Our highly personalised curriculum; exceptional extra-curricular opportunities; student leadership culture, and sound attainment make Ortu schools very exciting places in which to learn, work and play. High quality teaching and pastoral care combine to make Ortu schools a truly unique experience. Our staff are committed and determined to uphold and promote the long established high standards, which have ensured that our students progress confidently to college, university and employment, with the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to lead successful, positive and productive lives.

About the school:

We are delighted you are applying for this post at Ortu Hassenbrook Academy. We are a small harmonious 11-16 secondary school in Stanford-le-Hope with an exciting future.

At Ortu Hassenbrook we are on a rapid improvement journey across the board. Our reputation is positive.  Our roll is increasing.  Our curriculum is revamped. Opportunity is at the heart of what we provide, our vision is for students to leave school being responsible, respectful citizens, ready for the opportunities that life brings. We are a smaller secondary school, where every child is known, nurtured and developed to their full potential, but one that offers a full curriculum at both KS3 and 4, with a mixture of both academic and vocational qualifications.

Not only is Ortu Hassenbrook Academy a spacious school, we have excellent facilities, such as newly refurbished Construction classrooms, and we are known in the community for our sporting facilities which we let out in the evenings for local groups.

We prioritise extra-curricular activities and encourage pupils to participate. There is a rich programme of clubs, trips and activities, including a wide range of sports, Creative Arts and Debate club, the Passport to Adventure programme, Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, and we have our own Cadet force. We work extensively with external partners to offer programmes to support all pupils, we have mental health ambassadors and we are a Stonewall school.

The development of life skills for every student is paramount; pupils are given opportunities to develop through leadership, teamwork, effective communication, and problem solving, and are encouraged to focus on their work ethic, their flexibility and adaptability as well as their interpersonal skills. We have been working with the Thurrock Community Volunteering Service to provide volunteering opportunities for our pupils; we have an extensive careers programme and are working with local employers such as Amazon and DP World, as well as with various universities to provide pupils with a broad range of employer and higher education experiences.
