The Team

The art team works with students across a range of different courses from general art and design to fashion, photography, illustration, and spatial and graphic design. Courses are run at levels 1 – 4. The new course will be delivered across the school of the arts.

 

The Role

This role would be suited to someone looking to teach and lead students learning, with particular focus on either general art and design, illustration focused. You will be an experienced teacher delivering skills, knowledge and understanding to enable students to learn new specialist creative arts skills on their learning programmes. We are looking for someone who is highly creative and imaginative who can work alongside an experienced team to develop the level 3 UAL Extended Diploma in Art and Design to support students with their progression from level 2 to level 3 learning programmes. We wish to maintain the highest standards in the creative industries education and the opportunity to lead this course at Northampton College will enable to course leader to develop new skills in leadership across the school of the arts. The role includes delivery of specialist lessons in either art illustration at level 3, and the co-ordination of the level 3 diploma/extended diploma as a course leader to ensure the success of students to achieve their full potential.

The role will also include the delivery of specialist skills lessons to groups of arts students directed by the art curriculum manager focusing on level 3 illustration and potentially from a range of different courses within the school of arts and creative and digital industries in a directed timetable. This will involve the delivery of either general art and design, fine art and illustration. As with all co-ordination roles, the development of presentation, portfolio building, essay writing, research and exhibitions skills is critical within the arts. End of year final exhibitions are a great opportunity for students and team members to celebrate the hard work from the year. The arts team excel in mid-year bespoke exhibitions in the local community and the opportunity for students to learn to work collaboratively as a team across the school of the arts will be essential.

Managing high quality aspirational learning and effective use of team work, planning and organisational skills in a sustainable manner is an essential part of the co-ordinators role.


The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, abilities and qualities will include:

  • Educated to level 4 (including GCSE Maths & English at a grade C/4 or above)
  • A qualification in art and design is essential. The candidate must be able to demonstrate skills and expertise in the art specialist area.
  • Experience of working with young people and adults as a teacher
  • Enthusiastic, motivated and committed to supporting and motivating students.
  • Strong digital skills, including word processing and electronic communication.
  • Passionate about the creative arts.
  • Well organised and able to plan and manage in a highly effective manner.
  • Excellent team leadership skills.

Northampton College is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational further education college situated in Northamptonshire. It is a 16-plus institution with three campuses: a major building at its main Northampton site, a smaller campus near the town centre and another 20 miles away in Daventry. It provides places for around 9,000 students aged 16 and over, most of whom are full-time and aged 16-18.

Northampton College was opened in 1973. It merged with Daventry Tertiary College to expand its Daventry campus in August 2004, and its Booth Lane campus reopened after a large redevelopment in 2012.
