TEACHER IN CHARGE of School, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital  

Leadership scale: LR 12-LR16 Outer London Full-time Permanent Position  

The Helix Education Centre is a caring and inclusive PRU that prides itself on helping the young people it works with to achieve their full potential.  It is also a complex PRU, catering for a number of specific groups of young person’s through Home Tuition, an outreach Inclusion Support Team  and Hospital Education.  

The Teacher-in-Charge (TIC) will have the lead role in the H-RNOH Service, providing vision, leadership and direction for the service, and alongside the Head of EOTAS Service & Deputy, will ensure the service is managed and organised to meet its aims and core values.  The TIC will promote a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all areas of the service’s work as planned, reviewed and evaluated annually through the Service Development Plan.  

The H-RNOH Service aims to ensure that all children and young people undergoing treatment have access to appropriate education, taking into account every pupil’s individual needs and providing a broad and balanced curriculum.  The service seeks to promote the emotional, social, health and educational development of the whole child.  Education is an integral part of the therapeutic programme and as such, education is delivered through a co-operative partnership between Schools education staff, other members of the hospital multidisciplinary team and the young person’s family.  

The successful candidate will:  

• Have evidence of successful middle leadership

 • Be passionate about students’ learning and see all students  aspire to succeed

 • Be a significant and visible presence in and around the school 

• Command the respect of colleagues, students and parents 

• Good management and organisation skills and experience in leading and managing other staff 

• Excellent communication skills and experience of working effectively in partnership with pupils, parents, colleagues and outside agencies  

You are encouraged to make an informal visit to the school; however an opportunity will also arise on the day of the interview

Start Date:          Autumn 2017 or Spring 2018
