Values and vision

Oatlands Junior School aims to teach children how to be tolerant of others and gain independence. Staff also encourage children to face fresh challenges in order to learn new skills. The school follows a creative curriculum that allows children to learn through extra-curricular activities, including art, design and technology, music and French.

English lessons focus on phonics sessions, to improve reading and writing activities and ensure spelling, grammar and punctuation are accurate. The teachers allow students to work as a group for certain class tasks. Each child also has their own portfolio to demonstrate their  capability in each key stage.

Oatlands Junior School also recognises the importance of mathematics, so pupils are taught mental calculations from a young age. Each child has a maths passport, which they take to each class to show their development over the years. Teachers encourage the children to want to learn more and take part in lessons.

Ofsted report

“Pupils enjoy school, make good progress in their learning and achieve well. As a result, they develop into confident and articulate young people, well-prepared for the next stage in their education. Pupils are extremely well looked after. They feel exceptionally safe in the happy and purposeful working atmosphere of the school. Pupils work hard and take an obvious pride in all that they do. The very effective promotion of pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development leads to exemplary behaviour and attitudes.”
