Job overview

High Well School is a Special School which caters for seventy 11-16 year olds with an Education Health & Care Plan for severe and profound social, emotional and mental health needs as well as other learning difficulties. The School meets the needs of some of Wakefield's most complex and vulnerable young people.

High Well endeavours to provide a nurturing environment with personalised support and specialist teaching to enable our pupils to re-engage in learning, develop their social and emotional skills and leave with not only appropriate qualifications but the skills required to succeed in life after school. This is reflected in our vision of 'Preparing for Positive Futures'.

The Governing Body are seeking to appoint a talented and committed teacher with a track record of excellent outcomes for pupils, who can plan and deliver an engaging and personalised curriculum as a class teacher in KS3. The successful candidate will enjoy team work and have experience of working collaboratively with a range of staff and other professionals. The school follows Nurture Group Principles and is seeking to appoint a candidate who can create a safe classroom environment where pupils' social, emotional and learning needs are met. In addition to being a class teacher the successful candidate will take responsibility for SEND at KS3.  The school welcomes applications from experienced primary, middle or secondary teachers from mainstream or special schools, who are able to teach across a range of subjects including Maths, English, Humanities and PSHE and already hold the National Award for Special Education Needs Co-ordination or are committed to achieving the aforementioned qualification.

Class sizes in High Well are usually restricted to twelve pupils, with trained HLTA and teaching assistant support for every group to ensure pupils develop secure relationships with staff and enable personalised planning and delivery. The school offers a bespoke and comprehensive induction package for new staff followed up with extensive CPD. The successful candidate would benefit from opportunities for further professional development and career progression as we value and support our staff in all aspects of school life.

Dear Candidate,

On behalf of the staff and Governing Body, welcome to High Well School's recruitment website.

High Well is a special school for seventy pupils aged between 9 -16 years with an Education, Health and Care Plan for Profound/Severe Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH).   At High Well we aim to prepare every pupil for a positive future.  Our core purpose is to develop our pupils’ academic, social and emotional skills so that each pupil leaves us ready and equipped for further education, employment or training, knows how to keep themselves safe, and is able to contribute to society.

Many of our pupils come to us having experienced disruption to their school life, often from an early age.   At High Well we aim to provide stability and consistency for both pupils and parents/carers in order to overcome barriers to learning through supporting and teaching our pupils how to manage and regulate their emotions and feelings.  Thorough and robust assessment ensures that we identify what each pupil already knows and where there are any gaps in their learning/development.  This allows us to plan to meet individual pupils’ needs and ensure that every pupil makes good or better progress.

We have a fantastic staff team with a range of expertise who are committed to our ethos of Preparing for Positive Futures, and work hard to ensure the best possible quality of education for each pupil.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to contact the school if you require further information or visit our High Well School website by visiting: https://www.highwellschool.org.uk.  The school application form, job description and associated documents are attached to this advert.

Our website aims to give you a taster of what High Well is about as well as a range of useful information, including our social media tweets, latest OFSTED report, handy tips to support you in fully completing your application form and much more!
