Job overview
We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic teacher of Additional Support for Learning to the West Primary Inclusion Service on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave. The vacancy is full-time and from October to March.
This post may be suitable for a Secondment and Line Management approval must be sought before applying for the position.
The successful postholder would work across schools in the West of the region on an outreach basis supporting young people with social, emotional and behaviour needs, and would identify and assess barriers to learning in partnership with appropriate practitioners and parents, and address these needs through the delivery of a relevant curriculum.
Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.
This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

The Newton Stewart secondary school nurtures positive behaviour and teamwork, wanting to maintain a good, strong partnership between staff, parents and students. A wide range of extra-curricular activities are organised for students across the year groups to get involved in and extend their learning experience beyond the classroom, meet new friends and discover new talents and interests. These range from vocational based, such as the Young Writers Club, to sports and fitness clubs. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is also available for students to take part in.
