Teacher of Art (0.8 fte)

Clayfields House provides 24/7 secure care, education, programme work and treatment for up to 18 children aged between 10 and 18 years of age. Children are placed with us either on criminal grounds in terms of remand or sentence or on welfare grounds because of high level risks to themselves. Only very complex children with high tariff offences are sentenced to custody these days. Children secured on welfare grounds also have highly complex needs including; chronic self-harm and suicidal ideation, substance misuse and are increasingly, victims of child sexual exploitation. The children we work with are some of the most vulnerable, challenged and challenging children in the country, they have all experienced complex trauma and have attachment difficulties. We believe that positive change is possible for all of the children we work with.

Clayfields House is graded “Outstanding” by Ofsted because of the high quality of our offer and the outcomes our young people achieve.

You will be a qualified teacher who can demonstrate:

  • Expert practical knowledge and understanding of their relevant specialist curriculum area and Key Stage 3 and 4and an ability to lead their curriculum area within the centre.
  • Outstanding teaching skills including experience of teaching pupils experiencing social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
  • Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills and have the ability to form professional and supportive relationships with complex young people.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of a range of SEN.
  • High expectations for the academic achievement of young people in challenging circumstances.
