Job overview

Forest seeks an inspiring Teacher of Art for a maternity cover post commencing in January. The post will run until the end of this academic year and comes with the flexibility to be offered on a 0.8FTE basis or a full-time basis, dependent on the preferred working arrangements of the successful candidate. This can be discussed at interview.

The Teacher of Art will be responsible for delivering high quality teaching with the aim of helping students develop a broad base of skills through practical, investigational, and contextual work across all Key Stages. The Teacher of Art must be able to demonstrate excellent subject knowledge and communicate this in an enthusiastic and imaginative way in all lessons.

The aims of the Art Department at Forest are as follows:

  • To ensure that Forest pupils and students have an excellent Art experience
  • To teach a broad and challenging curriculum
  • To ensure that Art is visible and appreciated within the Forest community and wider communities.

The Art Department at Forest occupies a special and visible place in the school. Results in the allied subjects (Fine Art, Photography and Textiles) are sector leading. In 2022 100% of Art and Textiles A-Level students achieved A*-A grades, and over 50% of Art GCSE pupils achieved a Grade 9 – with 90% of the cohort achieving 9-7. Around 30-35 pupils per year elect to take GCSE Art and there is always healthy demand at A-Level.

Outside of the classroom, the department engages in a range of enrichment and extra-curricular art and has enjoyed great success in leading trips to galleries and exhibits in New York, London, and Paris.

The Forest School Ethos

Forest is a humane, open-minded school with both feet on the ground, in which the pupils’ all-round personal development is outstanding and academic attainment is high. It is, above all, a happy school which understands the rich inter-relationship between the curricular, the co-curricular and the pastoral. There is boldness in the School’s character, a readiness to be forward-thinking and adaptable, with pride in what we are and excitement for what lies ahead.
