King’s Rochester is offering an exciting opportunity for an exceptional Teacher of Art & Design to join an extraordinarily high achieving Art and Design Department on a part-time basis (0.4 FTE). In recent years the Department has achieved better than 80% A* to A at A level and GCSE and has been placed in the top 5% of Art Departments in the country for Value Added. 

The candidate will be a highly motivated, inspiring and engaging teacher able to teach pupils throughout GCSE and A level as well as Key Stages 2 and 3 with a PGCE alongside a degree in Art or Design. The syllabus is driven by an emphasis on academic drawing hence, you will need to be able to evidence your ability of teaching in this area. Previous training and knowledge of Graphic Design and/or ceramics would be advantageous. 

The Department strives to get the best from its pupils and teaching staff and you will need to be able to demonstrate your commitment to developing your subject knowledge and furthering your professional development.

King’s Rochester is a mixed, non-selective, Church of England, all-through school with nursery classes and sixth form situated in Rochester, Kent. It is an independent school with boarding provision and an associate member of the Woodard Foundation. A smaller than average school, King’s Rochester provides 800 places for nursery, preparatory, senior and sixth-form students between the ages of 3 and 18 when fully subscribed.

The oldest choir school and the second oldest school in the world, King’s Rochester has roots dating back to the founding of Rochester Cathedral in the year 604 AD. King Henry VIII refounded the school in 1542.

There is an easy mix of the different cultures within the school. Pupils develop well in knowledge, skills and understanding. Some more able pupils achieve excellent standards in activities, for example in music, individually in sports, and in the performing arts.”
