Job overview

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and well-qualified specialist graduate who can teach Art and Graphic Design throughout Key Stages 3 and 4.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about raising learners’ individual achievements with innovative ideas to build on existing good practice. Alongside being able to demonstrate excellence in teaching and learning, you should be committed to the role of Tutor, supporting a group of 15/16 students who benefit from a daily tutorial session. You will be part of a team which delivers the new Bailiwick Curriculum, including a range of international and UK qualifications. We also expect you to make a full contribution to the ethos, identity and life of the school, offering a commitment to the broad range of enrichment activities that are available.

About the Education Service

La Mare de Carteret High School currently operates as part of the Guernsey Federation of Secondary Schools which includes St Sampson’s, Les Beaucamps and Guernsey Grammar School and Sixth Form, alongside St Anne’s School in Alderney. Secondary and Post-16 education is undergoing a period of exciting change on the Island which includes a planned new structure with one 11-18 all ability school on two sites.

The drivers in Secondary phase education for this significant transformation are: equality of educational experience and outcomes, equality of opportunity and access, and efficient and effective use of resources.

Employed by the States of Guernsey and based at La Mare de Carteret High School, you will be required to maximise opportunities for collaborative working, teaching and learning across Key Stages and shared professional development across schools. There is an expectation that you will engage in cross-school collaboration which may require working on more than one site to meet the needs of the Education Service. The transition plans for the new structure may also mean you will work from an alternative site.

Benefits

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded and thriving Art and Technology department where the success rate in external examinations is consistently high. The department is well-resourced with a dedicated team of specialist teachers.

This post carries a five-year employment permit. If appointed, you can expect to:

  • Benefit from the stunning scenery and enviable quality of life;
  • Work in a well-resourced school with favourable PTRs;
  • Be part of a leading development of Art and Graphic Design in education and be allocated a personal laptop;
  • Receive a generous relocation package to the island, including rent allowance;

About La Mare de Carteret High School

Located on Guernsey, the Channel Islands, La Mare de Carteret is a secondary school first established in its current form in 2009, following a merger with another local secondary school. The school follows the standard curriculum common between all schools on the Channel Islands, with students at the school ultimately working towards their GCSE examinations at age 16. Following students have the option of either leaving education, or continuing their further education studies at a local college, allowing them to study for A-level examinations. The school is able to support this curriculum with a range of modern teaching and recreational facilities. The school is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education for students from a range of social and economic backgrounds, and works hard to ensure that the school curriculum is properly personalised and equipped to support the educational needs of every child. The school also seeks to provide for the personal development of its pupils, ensuring their social and emotional intelligence progresses along with their academic ability.
