Job overview

The Art department at Gordonstoun is a small but busy hub of creativity.  We currently have three staff with a mixture of full and part time members and one full time technician.  We teach Art from Junior School through to A Level and Photography is taught at A level as an additional option.  We have three large classrooms and two fully resourced computer suites and an Art library area for students to use to support their research.

The department aim is to work towards providing an environment which nurtures and actively encourages creativity and talent.  Practical work develops through an ethos of praise and constructive dialogue between student and teacher.  Students are exposed to a wide range of media and techniques and develop their appreciation of art through the generation of their own work and through the opportunity to see artwork in gallery settings.

All students are encouraged to have ownership of their ideas and work, developing work with guidance from the teacher rather than instruction whenever possible.  Due to the nature of the post the classroom will be a shared space but the successful candidate should take pride and ownership over the displays and learning environment.  We currently follow the OCR for GCSE and A level Art, Craft and Design specification route to allow our students to choose their own pathways as an artist.

About Gordonstoun

The School
Gordonstoun is known for the wide range of activities that it provides for girls and boys throughout the School's 6-18 age range. It has first-class facilities for these activities which include, in addition to all the normal subjects and many outdoor pursuits, expeditions, seamanship and a wide variety of rescue services.
The creative life of the School is vibrant and well developed, with Drama, Art, Music and Technology central to the life and ethos of Gordonstoun. There are opportunities for staff to contribute both in the role of expert or as an enthusiastic amateur.
Staff are deeply committed and, during term, work throughout the week, including weekends. The variety and range of our activities, coupled with a real commitment to work, indicate the School's aim to educate the whole person.
