Required for September 2023: We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious Art Teacher who is knowledgeable and passionate about their subject

Our Art Department are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dedicated Art Teacher with a love of education to join the team to encourage all students to make progress in this subject no matter their ability. There are currently three highly committed teachers who strive for excellence, enjoying a range of traditional and progressive methodology and contributing to the academic life of the school. Teachers at Cove strive for academic excellence in all we do in an environment that cares and supports students.

The Art Department is a strong department which consistently achieves good outcomes. We offer Fine Art, 3D Art, Textile Art and Graphic Communication. A well-resourced department; the subject is taught in three well-equipped, specialist art rooms, one of which houses a kiln room. We also have a part-time Art Technician working with the department. The Art department run excellent trips for students such as visits to the V&A and Warner Studio Tours.

We are looking to appoint a colleague who will:

  • Engage, enthuse, motivate and challenge students in order for them to excel academically
  • Have relentlessly high expectations of themselves and students
  • Have excellent subject knowledge
  • Be willing to teach across the full age range of students; year 7 to year 11
  • Enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the Department and wider school through sharing resources and good practice, lesson observation, collaborative teaching, mentoring and active participation in continuing professional studies programme
  • Teach a standard timetable allocation
  • Make a positive contribution to the efficient running of the Department, including, setting and marking examinations, attending departmental meetings and undertaking administrative and other tasks as delegated by the Head of Department
  • Actively safeguard and promote the welfare of children
  • Support the schools’ aims and objectives for teaching and learning
  • Adhere to and promote all school policies and procedures

Person Specification:

  • Good level degree in a directly related subject (desirable)
  • Thorough knowledge of the (13-16) subject Curriculum (GCSE)
  • Recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE, or equivalent experience
  • Awareness of Safeguarding requirements and good practice
  • Good level of IT literacy
  • Be capable of delivering inspirational and informative lessons to the full age and ability range of pupils at the school
  • Be able to demonstrate a positive and authoritative rapport with students
  • Excellent and effective classroom management skills
  • Have excellent communication skills to enable effective dialogue with pupils, parents, staff and visitors
  • Be organised and self-motivated, with a proven record for meeting targets and deadlines

Cove School is a larger than average 11-16 secondary co-educational establishment, located in the north of Hampshire. We are a local authority school within easy commute of London, the historic city of Winchester and the beautiful scenery of the New Forest.
