Job overview

Greater Manchester Academies Trust is made up Manchester Communication Academy, Manchester Communication Primary Academy, North Manchester Initial Teacher Training and Manchester Communication Research School.

Our ambition is to provide the highest quality education for children and young people in the urban context of Manchester. At GMAT, we believe passionately in the power of an excellent education to transform lives and futures and feel that we can build on our social investment activities, local knowledge, community relationships and strong partnerships to make this happen.

At the heart of our Trust are our five core values: trustworthy; helpful; inspiring; straightforward and heart.

The School

Manchester Communication Academy is a vibrant school that is at the heart of the community and is committed to improving educational outcomes for all of our students. MCA is proud to be a community hub and our outward facing work is exceptional.

Manchester Communication Academy serves the community of Harpurhey and its surrounding districts. We are an 11-16 secondary school with a primary school also on site. Close collaboration between the two schools is fundamental to our way of working.

Together, our driving force is to mitigate the impact of disadvantage and ensuring that the young people that we serve are equipped and ready to be successful and happy adults who we are proud to know.

In our Ofsted inspection in 2019 we were recognised as a GOOD school and want to build on this by recruiting excellent practitioners that are driven by evidence informed practice. MCA received Research School status in September 2019 and we are proud of the work that we conduct in partnership with the EEF and how this drives our teaching practice.

Everyone at MCA shares these same values and this is important to us. If you share these values too, then we would love to hear from you!

The Department

The Art department at MCA encompasses all aspects of the Art & Design curriculum. We currently offer GCSE’s in Fine Art, 3D Design, Textiles, Graphics and Photography and are fortunate to have excellent facilities to deliver these courses, including 2 x ceramics kilns, 1 x glass kiln, spray paints, 10 x sewing machines, heat presses, 3 x laptop trollies with full Adobe suite, digital SLR’s and lighting equipment. We also work closely with the Design Technology department who have a laser cutter, 5 x 3D printers and a full workshop. The successful candidate will be welcomed into a high performing, supportive team and will be able to bring their own ideas into the department.

Are you a teacher that can bring about excellence for our young people no matter what their start points or social context? If so, please apply for the post by completing the TES online application form, which should include a supporting statement of no more than 2 sides of A4 (minimum font size 10) explaining, with examples, how you meet the requirements set out in the person specification.

The closing date for applications is 10am on Monday 27th February 2023.

If I’m still interested, what should I do next?

We think that applying for a new role should always be seen as a 2-way process, you have to be right for us, but the school also has to be right for you. So if you are interested in applying, please do feel free to get in touch to discuss the role.

Manchester Communication Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure for a Regulated Activity via the Disclosure and Barring Service.
