About Newfield Secondary School

Newfield School is a mainstream secondary for children aged 11-16. It is situated in Sheffield, with approximately 1050 pupils on roll. Drawing from a wide catchment, the school offers a truly comprehensive experience.

Newfield School is part of Mercia Learning Trust, a successful multi-academy trust in the south of Sheffield. In 2025, Mercia Learning Trust was the fifth highest performing trust nationally for pupil progress at the end of KS4.

One of the benefits of our trust is the partnership work that takes places across our schools. Allowing all staff to collaborate and develop.

At Newfield School we believe in a more academic curriculum, in the desire to improve the outcomes and life chances of pupils. Like most high performing schools, we are developing our commitment to:

• A bookletised curriculum to increase our literacy offer and develop our academic content with a clearly defined pedagogical approach.

• Instructional Coaching and lesson observations.

• Development of warm/strict principles- with line ups introduced and a strong behaviour policy in lessons.

• Knowledge based approach in lessons.

• A sensible approach to workload, with a marking policy and assessment cycle that supports pupil progress and staff management of time.

• Strong relations between staff and pupils to support high challenge and respect.

• A supportive SLT who allow teachers to teach and offer professional challenge.

Newfield School places pupils at the centre of its work, especially disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils. We are establishing a more academic phase that promotes high expectations of all pupils. The school has high aspirations, and its goal is to improve life chances for each pupil irrespective of their starting point.

All our teachers are committed to realising these aims and the school is well placed to become one of the leading schools nationally.
