The Laurus Trust - Unashamedly Academic

We are looking for an individual who;

  • Has excellent and demonstrable subject knowledge and can deliver high quality teaching and learning across all key stages

  • Inspires students to strive for excellence and is committed to our ethos that we do ‘whatever it takes’ to ensure that all students achieve their potential

About us:

In September 2019, Hazel Grove High School joined the Laurus Trust. The 2019 results saw an exceptionally high proportion of our students gaining good passes at GCSE and A Level. Our students’ achievements this year continue Hazel Grove High School’s proud tradition of academic achievement for all, with the vast majority of our students gaining places on their chosen post-16 and university courses.

The Laurus Trust is a growing multi-academy trust in the North West of England.

The vision of the Trust is for everyone regardless of background or circumstance to be inspired, to thrive in all environments, to recognise what it takes to succeed, to set aspirational goals and to work hard to achieve them. We are unashamedly academic. In the recent Staff Engagement Survey 97% of our employees stated that they would recommend working for Laurus Trust to their friends. In 2018/19 our average Teacher turnover rate for Secondary schools was 3.26%, which falls way below the National Average of 15%.

All our Laurus Schools are hugely oversubscribed and have a reputation, both locally and further afield, for outstanding teaching and learning through the relentless pursuit of excellence and the determination to ensure that every child succeeds. Our founder school Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS) was judged Outstanding in every single category by Ofsted in 2011 and 2015. CHHS ranked as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school nationwide in the annual Times Parent Power Survey 2019. This year CHHS is one of the top ten most sought after schools in Greater Manchester with more than 40% of all GCSEs awarded at Grade 7 or above, whilst an impressive 69% scored grades 9-5 in English and Maths. Grade 5 or above is considered the government’s gold standard at GCSE level.

Our students’ behaviour is faultless. (Ofsted 2015).

At the heart of our success at Laurus is the passionate belief in the importance of professional learning for all our staff. A rich diet of research informed pedagogy ensures that our teachers are at the cutting edge of their practice. To support this we financially support masters and doctoral level study alongside the NPQ suite of qualifications.

If you want to work in a highly ambitious and successful school, and have the passion and commitment to join us at an exciting time for learning and development as we expand and open new schools in the Trust, then we would like to hear from you.

In September 2019 Hazel Grove High School joined the Laurus Trust, which is underpinned by the shared vision...“For everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, to be inspired, to thrive in all environments, to recognise what it takes to succeed, to set aspirational goals and to work hard to achieve them.” We currently have 1391 students on roll. In addition, we opened our redeveloped Academic Sixth Form in September 2023.

In our recent ‘Good’ Ofsted inspection in January 2022, Hazel Grove was classified as Outstanding in the areas of Leadership and Management; Personal Development and also in our Sixth Form provision with inspectors noting that staff “are highly positive about what leaders do to support them”.

We were so proud of our students who achieved truly impressive GCSE results in 2023. We had a progress 8 score of 0.22 which shows that student outcomes were excellent.  Year 11 students achieving 9-4 in English and Maths was 70% and 59% achieved Grades 9-5. In our second year of entering Year 9 students for GCSE Languages, 62% of students achieved a pass at grade 5 and above with nearly 30% at the top grades of 7-9. Incredibly, 14 of our Year 9 students achieved the top grade of a 9.

We endeavour to provide students with the best possible opportunities to succeed and develop a love of learning that will last and that will support them as they take their next steps in life. Our hardworking and dedicated staff always have our students’ best interests at heart and challenge them to achieve their goals.

We set aspirational targets for all students and provide the curriculum, support and the structure needed to achieve them. This is essential to ensure that our students feel safe, confident and challenged. We have high expectations of all members of our school community and we provide opportunities for students to engage with the wider life of the school and, importantly, to develop the qualities, attitudes and habits which will allow them to flourish. At Hazel Grove High School, we place the professional development of staff at the very core of what we do. Our teachers know our students as individuals but they are also passionate and knowledgeable about their subjects. We all consider ourselves to be lifelong learners.
