We seek a biology specialist to join our strong science department. The successful applicant will teach substantially IGCSE and A level biology, with a small allocation of junior science. The current post holder is our Head of Biology, and Head of Science. These additional roles may be available for a suitably qualified and experienced candidate.
Since the foundation of the school in 2011, POWIIS has built a significant reputation in the region and beyond with excellent results; in 2019 our IGCSE 53% A*/A with 98% pass rate, and at A Level 56% A*/A, 77%A*/B and a 94% pass. We are able to assimilate students from a wide range of backgrounds, language capabilities and potentials, and give all opportunities to flourish. Although we have students of a wide range of abilities, they are all equally deserving of the highest quality of teaching, and they enjoy excellent facilities, with our sciences being a particular strength of the school. Our A level students move on to top universities around the world, with the UK having the most popular destinations.
There is a dynamic staff culture at the school with a strong professional development programme. There is an emphasis on the appropriate use of IT in a blended and realistic educational environment, achieving the best outcomes with varied approaches and the school is currently undergoing another comprehensive upgrade of our infrastructure to meet modern expectations. Students have their own devices.
Safeguarding and student welfare, whilst well defined in policies and expectations, is ensured by an overarching emphasis on relationship quality in the school. Our highly effective House based tutorial system is only one part of the day to day engagement of staff with our young people, as we deliver a genuinely holistic education which is a model for other schools. Our performing arts benefit from our spectacular auditorium, and dynamic music and drama departments.
Our brand new purpose built Primary School has just opened with nearly 400 foundation pupils, and offers staff with young children the finest facilities in the region. Staff enjoy excellent conditions and benefits.
Malaysian work permits are usually granted for two or three years. Contracts are therefore fixed term, but continuity is important for the school; it is hoped that appointments will be seen as longer term, with renewal of contracts common. The staff is predominantly European, who share with high quality Malaysian and other international colleagues, outstanding facilities and resources.
