Teacher of Biology (Temporary - Maternity Cover)

Required for December 2017 for a maternity cover, a well-qualified, enthusiastic teacher of Biology to join our thriving and successful Science department. Candidates should specify their qualifications and experience in the teaching of Biology in Key Stages 3, 4 + 5.

Requirements

Job description:

The following duties and responsibilities of all teaching members of the Science department are in addition to the standard scale job descriptions for all teachers at Camden School for Girls.

  1. Teaching Science to students in Years 7 to 9
  2. Teaching AQA combined Science GCSE in Year 10 and in Year 11
  3. Teaching your specialist subject to KS5 students
  4. Planning and preparing courses and lessons, including contributing to the work of the department by writing, reviewing and updating schemes of work
  5. Updating module tests and revision materials for particular modules or topics
  6. Taking responsibility for the resources for particular modules or topics
  7. Taking responsibility for students’ health and safety in your lessons as set out in the department’s health and safety policy
  8. Assessing, recording and reporting on the development, progress and attainment of students in line with the department’s assessment policy


Our criteria for selection will be evidence of:

  1. Good honours or Biology graduate (or Biology related degree) with a qualification to teach Science at KS3 and KS4 level, and Biology at A- level
  2. Successful experience of teaching GCSE and A Level Biology in a comprehensive school
  3. Evidence of further study or training
  4. An understanding of current curriculum issues in Science education
  5. The ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing
  6. Sympathy with the aims and ethos of the school An understanding of, and a commitment to carrying out, equal opportunities policies
  7. A commitment to participate in extra-curricular activities
