Full time (potential for 0.8) permanent position commencing January 2020
Salary – United Learning Pay Scale (competitive)
We have an opportunity for an outstanding Science teacher to join the Biology Department at William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS), recently announced as Greater Manchester’s Second most over-subscribed school and one of the most successful comprehensive schools in the country. WHGS is an all-through (3-18) Academy of over 1400 pupils with a wide range of abilities, ethnicities and backgrounds. The Academy has a new Sixth Form Centre which in 2018 marked the completion of a huge expansion project. Inspectors judged the school to be Good in all phases in its most recent inspection, May 2019 and over the summer, the Science Centre has been refurbished and modernized, so this is an exciting time to join the school.
Reporting to the Head of Faculty (Science), you will be responsible for teaching Science at Key Stages 3 and Biology at both KS4 and KS5. You will be an outstanding teacher, delivering consistently good and outstanding lessons, an excellent team player with the highest standards of professionalism and expectations of students. You will have up to date subject knowledge and a track record of success in maximising student progress across all key stages, particularly KS5.
As well as being an enthusiastic teacher who is passionate about the teaching of Science and Biology, you will also need to demonstrate a commitment to the extra-curricular life of the school. Within the Science faculty, a large range of activities take place such as science club, university trips and participation in events at other local schools.
Science is a very successful and high achieving faculty at WHGS which boasts outstanding results. A recent IDSR report has indicated the vast majority of science courses at KS4 are performing significantly above national standards. Results from the last academic year show sustained performance at KS4 and improving results at KS5. The uptake of science courses at A level is particularly strong.
The department also has an excellent reputation for its success with the development and mentoring of trainee teachers. WHGS has had a number of School Direct trainees as part of United Teaching in the north and we have had considerable success with Science trainees over the last two years and with PGCE students prior to that.
