Job overview

Applications are welcome for an experienced Teacher of Biology to join our Science Department from September 2023. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of exceptional results, a passion for the subject and a willingness to participate in the extracurricular life of the department and the school. The ability to teach Chemistry or Physics to GCSE level would be an advantage. The successful candidate must be highly motivated, show commitment to self-improvement and to the extracurricular life of the department and that of the school.

The Science Department at RMS is dynamic and examination grades are excellent. At GCSE we have an even number of students who take the separate and combined courses. Biology is one of the most popular subjects at A Level, with multiple sets in both Year 12 and 13, and many students going on to study medical related courses at university.

The Science Department is forward thinking, well-resourced and is set in its own purpose built building. It has eleven fully fitted laboratories and we are extremely privileged to be one of very few schools in the UK to have its own telescope and planetarium to support the teaching of Astronomy topics across the curriculum.

RMS is an independent, day and boarding school with a forward-thinking approach to providing exceptional education to around 1000 girls aged 2 – 18.  Situated in stunning grounds of over 300 acres, with keen students and a large teaching body, RMS is a fabulous environment in which to work and learn.

Values and vision

The Royal Masonic School sets very high standards for the academic progress of its pupils. It offers an engaging and vibrant curriculum, with a number of modern teaching facilities to help its pupils reach their full potential.

Aside from academic success, the school also highly values emotional and social intelligence, with girls being encouraged to steer their own learning and become independent and self-motivated.

ISI report

“Sharply focused assessments by experienced staff ensure that the next steps are suitably challenging for every child. A careful balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities enables most children to reach or exceed their expected levels in the seven areas of learning. Daily opportunities for outdoor learning in all of these areas are limited in the classes without immediate access to outside facilities.”
