The position of Residential Assistant Housemaster/Mistress may also be available for the right candidate.

We seek a well-qualified and enthusiastic person to assist the Head of Department with the School’s delivery of Biology  teaching, which is effective, engaging and interesting and supports the School’s aspiration to provide outstanding teaching and learning for its pupils.

King Edward’s Science Department’s specialist teachers aim to excite and fulfil curiosity in and across the scientific world.

Science is a core subject from the minute the pupils arrive at King Edward’s with Biology, Chemistry and Physics making up a significant proportion of their studies from 1st to 3rd Form. 4th Form Science is central to their GCSEs, with a choice to take double or triple GCSE award.

GCSE double award science: pupils study all three sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) but are awarded two GCSEs. Their GCSE grades are awarded on their overall performance across all three science subjects. This equips all pupils who wish to take one or more sciences forward at Sixth Form to meet course requirements. GCSE triple science: pupils study Biology, Chemistry and Physics as individual subjects, acquiring greater in-depth knowledge of the disciplines. For the committed young scientist, this pathway allows them to achieve three GCSE science subjects.

The Science curriculum is enriched across all year groups with relevant events; fieldwork in the School’s extensive woodlands, local commons and further afield to coastlines and more; lectures by visiting scientists to the School and trips to University lectures, for example the University of Surrey Lecture Series and The University of London Enrichment.

As part of the KESW community, we expect our teachers to contribute to our collaborative and collegiate Common Room, to share in developing the policies, strategies and systems that underpin our daily practice, as well as supporting their Head of Department to ensure that our pupils achieve excellent results. We celebrate success and model a culture of aspiration, intellectual curiosity and appreciation for the different skills and knowledge that all contribute to the education of rounded, happy pupils who will leave KESW equipped to seize opportunities, relish challenge and build for themselves happy and fulfilling lives.

As well as a diverse and interesting body of pupils to motivate and inspire, we can offer job satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment, a competitive salary, Teacher’s pension scheme, the potential for on-site accommodation at significantly reduced rental, staff fee remission on School fees both at King Edward’s and our partner school Barrow Hills, free car parking, free use of our gym, swimming pool and sports facilities, all meals and snacks on duty and a Cycle to Work Scheme.

King Edward's School is a co-educational boarding and day 11-18 school for some 400 pupils, around 60% of whom are full boarders. We are an HMC school and proud of our unique heritage and place among British co-educational independent schools.

To apply, please complete the Application Form or for further details, visit our website www.kesw.org or contact  the HR Department on HR@KESW.ORG or telephone 01428 686358.
