Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a Teacher of Biology to join our well established and high performing department.  The post would be suitable for an NQT or for someone with experience looking to develop their teaching practice further.  There is the possibility of a TLR for an appropriate candidate.

All students at St Andrew’s study at least Trilogy Science at GCSE with 45% of students studying separate sciences.  The exam results are very strong with over 90% of students achieving 4-9 at GCSE in Science and well over 50% of those studying separate sciences achieving 7-9 in Biology.  The sciences are also very popular at A Level with significant numbers of students choosing to study Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Forensic Science.  The exam results in A Level Biology are very strong at St Andrew’s with 97% of the grades at A*-C over the past 5 years.  

Due to the continued success of our Science Department, we are seeking to appoint a highly motivated practitioner who shares our commitment to high standards of professionalism and academic achievement and is eager to develop their own practice in an environment that at the cutting edge of Science and Biology. 

The successful candidate will have a genuine passion for the subject and for teaching children; the ability to inspire students; and the desire to go the extra mile to help our students achieve their full potential. 

This is a great opportunity to join a strong Science department which has excellent specialists in all three sciences to support less experienced teachers.

The successful candidate will be provided with excellent CPD and developmental opportunities throughout their time at St Andrew’s in preparation for future promotion.

St Andrew’s Catholic School is a mixed, comprehensive, Roman Catholic secondary school with sixth form situated in Leatherhead, Surrey. It is a community state school which has strong links to local churches and falls under the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. The school  provides 1290 places for secondary and sixth form students between the ages of 11-18.

A school that consists of three buildings, the central school building dates back to the 1950s, while its new building opened in 2018.
