Job overview

Starting September 2022

Wetherby Senior School is at an exciting point in its growth and development, and we are seeking a talented individual to join us as a Teacher of Biology

The School

Wetherby Senior is an independent day school in the heart of London where a passionate and dedicated approach towards education is taken by pupils and teachers alike. It is a school renowned for its excellent pastoral care, exciting approach towards teaching, and a strong sense of community within the staff body. The school prospectus is also attached should you require further information.

The Science and Biology Department

The science department consists of nine teachers, three from each discipline, working alongside two excellent laboratory technicians. Over the past three years, an average of 65% of students have studied for individual science IGCSEs, while the remaining 35% have studied for the Science (Double Award). In that time the Biology Department has achieved 100% 9-7. Biology is a popular choice at A level with 85% A*-B in 2021.

The department’s aim is not limited to aiding students in achieving exceptional results, but also to help them develop a scientific approach to problem solving through practical work, an exploratory curriculum and maximising the cocurricular opportunities that the school’s central London location offers. There are nine fully equipped teaching laboratories with resources stretching beyond A level specifications and the expertise and experience to bring practical work into any teaching scenario. Extra-curricular activities are a strong focus for the school with the department running an Astronomy club, Future Medics club and academic Olympiad in all three sciences.  Wetherby Senior regularly runs trips to local museums, such as the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum, as well as offering science based expeditions to the ZSL London Zoo, Kew Gardens and the Royal Observatory at Greenwich. New members to the team are encouraged to think of their own trips they would like to run, which includes the opportunity for longer trips abroad.

Please submit applications through the Alpha Plus Portal.

Application Deadline: no later than Friday 27th May 09.00am.  Please note that interviews may be held at any stage after applications are received, so candidates are advised to apply as soon as possible. About Wetherby Senior School

Wetherby Senior School is a thriving independent day school for boys aged 11-18 situated in the heart of London. Since opening in 2015 the School has grown and in September 2018 we welcomed our first cohort of Sixth Form pupils following very successful GCSE results. The School combines a rigorous academic education with an emphasis on developing the whole boy by giving him a broad educational experience and strong pastoral care.

We are an academically selective school and the main points of entry are 11+, 13+ and 16+. The School is divided into the Lower School (Years 6 to 9), Middle School (Years 10 to 11) and the Sixth Form with Heads of Section taking responsibility for each age group.

Wetherby Senior is a welcoming and dynamic place to work with a strong sense of community. The school invests in its staff with a programme of continual personal development. We seek to employ highly professional teachers with the ability and commitment to enhance the life of this School and to work effectively and collaboratively with all members of the School community to further develop the School. Our emphasis on educating the whole boy means that all members of staff, in due course, will be expected to contribute to the pastoral care of a group of students as a Form Tutor as well as contributing to the School’s co-curricular activities.
