A well-qualified and enthusiastic graduate is sought with the ability to teach core Physical Education at all levels, from Year 1 to Year 11 . To be successful, you should also be able to coach several team sports to a high level and be confident to lead on away fixtures and competitions. There are also opportunities for the involvement in the wider co-curricular life of this busy school where there is an expectation that teachers contribute fully.  

The post is suitable for someone with experience or new to the profession and the ability to teach a second subject will be of a distinct advantage to the applicant. Job description

This is an outstanding opportunity to join our busy and successful PE department. The role would suit an enthusiastic, hard working and passionate individual who wishes to share their drive and motivation with energetic young people of all ages. 

At present there are 3 full time PE teachers and a number of external coaches who assist in the running of extra-curricular clubs and matches. The department is responsible for the teaching of core PE across all ages and believe that all pupils, whatever their sporting prowess, get an opportunity to achieve in all the key elements of the subject. GCSE PE (Edexcel ) is taught in KS4 and results over the years have been encouraging. 

The successful candidate will have proven experience in a range of sports and will be expected to lead, and have a strong presence in core PE lessons. The candidate must also be able to coach at least two of the schools’ major team sports (Rugby, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Cross Country and Athletics) to a high level and be confident to lead teams on away matches and competitions. Also an interest in expanding our extra curricular provisions further with the introduction of new expertise and contacts. 

The school is home to The Seaglass , Thorpe Hall School’s new £2.4m state-of-the-art sports and events centre representing another huge leap forward in the facilities and educational provision at Thorpe Hall School. The Seaglass houses basketball and netball courts, badminton courts, indoor cricket nets, dance studio and a cardio-vascular room and gymnasium The School also has a large field providing football & rugby pitches, a grass athletics track, a small wooded area used for cross country and outdoor schools education and an all weather cricket pitch for the summer months. 

Further to the on site facilities we use the local Garon Park sports centre for tennis, swimming, golf, diving, spinning and hockey. 

Tasks and Duties would include: 

  • Work within the schools policies and guidelines on curriculum, discipline and organisation.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver creative and inspirational lessons to a range of ages and abilities.
  • Provide appropriate academic challenge to allow all pupils to reach their potential.
  • Maintain records, assess and write reports on pupils progress and development.
  • Attend Parents consultation evenings to discuss progress with pupils and parents.
  • Have outstanding subject knowledge and keep up to date with changes.
  • Be an outstanding ambassador to all pupils modelling professionalism, compassion and a hard working ethos at all times.
  • Undertake pastoral duties i.e. Form Tutor.
  • Contribute and enhance the curricular, extra-curricular and co-curricular activities of the whole school.
