Job overview

Queen Ethelburga’s is an Independent Collegiate of four co-educational schools. Located in North Yorkshire between the towns of York and Harrogate, we offer outstanding facilities and motivated students who join us with a broad range of academic, social and cultural backgrounds. We pride ourselves on being a happy community where students can grow to reach their full potential, both academically and socially. To meet the needs of our students we offer a wide choice of qualifications, a supportive environment and an exciting programme of extra–curricular opportunities, which are underpinned by high quality teaching and learning. The school actively promotes the professional development of its staff through induction, CPD and career development opportunities.

We require an enthusiastic Teacher of Boys’ PE, who will inspire our students across a variety of different sports including Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Gymnastics, Hockey, Rugby, Swimming and Trampolining. An in-depth knowledge of these sports is required with particular strengths within Rugby and Football. The ability to teach Academic and Vocational PE is also desirable due to both being popular options at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5. The post would suit an NQT or an experienced teacher. The post is initially for two terms with the possibility to extend further.

The successful candidates will offer:

The ability to teach PE across Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 5

  • A willingness to organise and deliver extra-curricular activities and flexibility and commitment to extra-curricular fixtures, many of which include Saturdays.
  • Experience of successfully preparing students for qualification at GCSE and BTEC L2/3

As a thriving day and boarding school, we have seen our numbers grow year on year, making us one of the largest school communities in the country. Our facilities are second to none and include a 25m indoor swimming pool, fitness suite, triple sports hall, 400m synthetic running track, a sand based and water based astroturf; 6 floor lit outside netball / basketball / tennis courts as well as 4 4g and 7 additional rugby and football pitches and cricket ground. They are enhanced annually to help ensure that we have everything needed to allow our young people ‘to be the best they can with the gifts that they have’ (our Hill Standard).

We also offer CPD and career development opportunities to all staff and this is an exciting opportunity to join a hardworking and dedicated team of PE Teachers and Sports Coaches, driving sport forwards across the collegiate.

Please note that this is a non-residential position with no on-site accommodation being offered.

Principal: Mr Steven Jandrell BA

This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.  You will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS disclosure.
