Job overview
The Vacancy
We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join the Business department here at Queen Elizabeth’s High School. The successful candidate will be required to teach both Business and Economics to A Level.
The Curriculum
We are excited to be adding Economics to our curriculum offer. Students will now be able to opt to study Business GCSE and then continue to A Level or select A Level Economics. We are looking for a candidate with the enthusiasm and drive needed to work in this growing department and help deliver a new subject to our curriculum offer. We currently have over 180 students studying at GCSE level and over 60 students at A Level. You will be joining an expanding department that has achieved outstanding results in 2022.
This successful, vibrant and forward thinking department currently has 3 dedicated teachers, who have access to a wide range of teaching resources and utilised Google Educational suite. The department has a collaborative working approach where sharing of best practice and pedagogy is encouraged. Each colleague has the opportunity to contribute their ideas and is supported fully with their CPD. There are regular department meetings in addition to the daily informal contact between colleagues in the department and across the faculty.
In the department, we aim to deliver a high quality education that inspires and enriches our students, exposing them, as far as possible, to the wealth of human knowledge, experience and understanding of businesses and the world of economics. By building an understanding of the increasingly complex world in which we live, students become better informed and develop as confident consumers, employees and entrepreneurs. Our curriculum is structured to allow students to progress confidently through the Key Stages and into further study and employment.
Queen Elizabeth’s High School offers a friendly working environment and extensive benefits for staff. These include a local government pension scheme, tax efficient childcare vouchers, a cycle to work scheme and continuous CPD. In addition, children of our staff feature favourably in the admissions criteria (subject to length of service or skills criteria).

First established in 1589, Queen Elizabeth’s High School is a grammar school located in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire. The school has existed in its current guise as a co-educational grammar school since 1983, when the two single-sex schools merged into a single institution. A state grammar school, Queen Elizabeth’s is academically selective in its admissions but charges no fees for tuition. With around 1200 pupils on roll in a co-educational setting aged 11-18, the school is noticeably larger than most secondary schools, around 150 of these residing in the school sixth form. Queen Elizabeth’s has seen extensive modernisation and development over the years.
