Job overview

We are looking to appoint a well-qualified and dynamic Teacher of Business and Economics for a September/October 2021 or possibly a January 2022 start. The successful candidate will have excellent classroom management skills and be able to inspire and motivate pupils through a diverse range of teaching styles. The ability to teach outstanding lessons in both Business and Economics confidently and enthusiastically across the GCSE and A Level years (the successful candidate will teach Economics at Lower Sixth for their first year of employment) is essential. The departments follow the Edexcel (Business) and AQA (Economics) specifications.

The Business and Economics departments at Harrodian are thriving and both subjects are highly popular choices amongst our pupils. Business is offered at GCSE and both Business and Economics are offered independently at A Level. We run an exciting taster programme in both subjects to our Year 9 pupils and these are pivotal in generating a large take-up of the subjects higher up the school. We are continually developing our range of teaching resources within the departments, and we endeavour to provide a range of interesting opportunities for pupils to develop their appreciation of the subject matter and its relevance to the bigger, global picture. To this effect, experience gained in a previous career outside teaching would be of significant advantage.

Applications from NQTs will be considered but must be supported by a relevant degree and experience in industry, as well as demonstrating an outstanding ability to teach.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, teaching and assessment within the Business and Economics departments. They must be a team player and demonstrate an enthusiasm and willingness to assist in study-related trips and events. The Business and Economics departments offer professional and collaborative working environments where our students' achievement and progress are at the forefront of our teaching. We are looking for a teacher who consistently models excellent practice and can make a significant contribution to these strong and successful departments.

Founded in 1993, the Harrodian School is co-educational and set in 25 acres of grounds with excellent facilities. Harrodian offers teachers and students alike a friendly, welcoming and exceptional school environment where classes are small and standards and expectations are high. We place a strong emphasis on the ability to convey enthusiasm and enjoyment of the subject to students across the ability range. A sense of fun, a readiness to respond to students’ individual needs and an open approach to teaching are qualities that we value highly. A teacher’s willingness to assist with a large range of extra-curricular activities is important in this dynamic and vibrant school. Teaching staff are expected to offer support to the learning, pastoral and co-curricular needs of our pupils to ensure the all-round quality of education offered at Harrodian.
