Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Teacher of Business Studies and IT to join a forward-looking 11–19 school. The Sweyne Park School is the lead school within the Rayleigh Schools Trust and works with a local primary school, providing a 3–19 educational experience for the local community. The successful applicant will have excellent subject knowledge, the ability to inspire students, and a desire to develop as a teacher. 

 

The teachers in both the Business Studies and the Computer Science departments work together, sharing resources and developing excellent practice. Within these subject areas, a range of academic and vocational courses are delivered. This role also offers the opportunity to work in a school with enthusiastic, supportive and committed colleagues. 

 

The Sweyne Park School:

 

·     opened a Sixth Form in September 2014;

·     is an oversubscribed school;

·     is highly committed to staff welfare and development;

·     has strong, ethical leadership and fair recruitment and retention practices;

·     was one of the first secondary schools in the county to gain UNICEF ‘Rights Respecting Gold’ status in 2019, and was re-accredited in 2022;

The Sweyne Park School is a co-educational, non-denominational secondary school with sixth form, situated in Rayleigh, Essex. There are 1,269 students on the school roll, aged 11-16. The town of Rayleigh has a population of 32,500 and is located between Chelmsford and Southend.  

The Sweyne Park School was formed in 1997 as the result of a merger between Sweyne and Park schools; it has held academy status since 2013. The road the school is based on is named for the 16th-century explorer Sir Walter Raleigh.

The Sweyne Park School prides itself on being a safe and happy environment for pupils. Central to the school is a belief in respect for students, staff and the environment. This focus on respect leads to high expectations and excellent discipline, which in turn deliver the highest possible achievement for each individual pupil.

The secondary school has taken its first steps towards becoming a UNICEF Rights Respecting School – its work so far has been recognised with UNICEF's Recognition of Commitment award. Sweyne Park's Rights Respecting Group represents pupils from each year, who work to make sure that everybody associated with the school – staff and parents included – knows about the rights of children and the importance of respecting these rights.
