Haileybury Almaty (HAL) is situated in the vibrant city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, and was the first Haileybury school to be established in the country. With an ever-expanding student body that currently sits at close to 800 pupils ranging from Reception to Year 13 (ages 4-18), HAL offers a unique educational experience. Our primary medium of instruction is English, complemented by dedicated teaching of the Kazakh language and history.

Shymbulak offers year-round attractions, from beautiful alpine meadows in the summer to a European standard ski and snowboarding resort in winter, including mesmerising floodlit night skiing.

Continuing Professional Development is a key focus for all of our staff at HAL. We offer in-house NPQML and NPQSL programmes as professional qualifications, along with a dynamic in-house and external CPD programme.

House competitions occur year-round, and we reward academic progress, participation in school life, musical performances, sports achievements, and contributions to the community through this system.

Our Governing Body comprises five members nominated by the Founder Investors and five nominated by Haileybury UK, including the Master of Haileybury UK. Ian Hunt, Chair of the Board, is a former HMC Head and was also CEO of Gabbitas Education. Established in 2008 in partnership with Haileybury College, one of the UK's most renowned and successful independent schools, Haileybury Almaty offers world-class holistic education for children aged 4-18, in line with the valued traditions of a British independent school education. The current Head, Simon Mills is also a former HMC Head of two highly successful schools in the UK.

At Haileybury Almaty, we take pride in our academic selectivity, with our students consistently achieving outstanding results in iGCSE and A-Level examinations. They go on to secure coveted spots at elite universities worldwide, including prestigious Ivy League institutions such as Harvard, , Yale , Columbia , and Brown in addition to MIT, and in the UK to Oxford, Cambridge, and other world class Russell Group destinations.

Our school is in a phase of growth and we currently accept between 20% to 40% of pupil applicants to take the entrance examination.
