Job overview

Tes are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational Teacher of Business on a full-time permanent basis from January 2022. Both experienced and newly qualified teachers are encouraged to apply.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an award-winning boarding and day school in the heart of London opposite the Houses of Parliament and close to Waterloo and South Bank. Its mission is to ‘Develop the next generation of Leaders to take their place in a challenging and Diverse world’. It was founded in 1931 to provide tutoring for Oxbridge and the Colonial Service entrance exams. After the Second World War the college specialised in ‘A’ and ‘O’ Level teaching and over a twenty-five-year period, there has been a gradual transformation so that the college now provides full-time education for some four hundred students.

As part of a renowned group of schools, the college London aims to maintain a ‘gold standard’ of educational quality. Their students follow a number of academic pathways, from GCSEs and A-Levels, to BTECs and their popular International Foundation Programmes. Classes are small, enabling students and teachers to focus upon the most effective ways of learning.  They stretch and challenge students, motivating them and raising their own expectations of themselves, moreover, their learning community is supported by an e-learning platform.

The school seeks an enthusiastic and well-qualified Business graduate to join and to work with the Head of Department and the Vice-Principal Academic in order to ensure that the highest academic, professional and ethical standards are maintained at all times. The teacher is responsible for providing a friendly, stimulating and secure environment in which every student has the opportunity to develop academically, socially and personally. With the guidance of the Head of Department, the Teacher is responsible for the complete and timely delivery of the subject syllabus, using a variety of teaching strategies to engage and challenge all students and meet their needs.

The Successful Candidate:

- Qualifications: A good honours degree in an appropriate subject relating to business studies

- Qualified Teacher Status is desirable but not essential - the college can support Initial Teacher Training

- To have a secure and up to date knowledge and understanding of concepts and skills necessary to teach BTEC Business or be able to teach some Economics would be an asset

- To plan teaching to achieve progression in students’ learning in line with agreed expectations/targets

- To establish and maintain a purposeful working atmosphere that supports learning

- To set homework and mark in line with college policies

- To prepare students for examinations and participate in examination arrangements
