Teacher of Chemistry
Required for September 2018
Queen Mary’s Grammar School is an invigorating and rewarding place to work: the pupils are intelligent and committed to study; the staff are friendly and forward looking. It is far more than just a place of work – it is a thriving community, proud of its past and confident of its future. We are an outstanding school, as recognised by OFSTED in our most recent inspection.
We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, dynamic and dedicated teacher of Chemistry to join a thriving and exciting department at Queen Mary’s Grammar School. The successful candidate will be a Chemistry specialist required to teach the subject from Year 8 to Year 13. The ability to teach General Science to Year 7 and, ideally, another science subject at Key Stage 3, would be an advantage. Applications are welcome from both newly qualified and experienced teachers.
Queen Mary’s Grammar School is a jewel in the heart of the Mercian region and enjoys a national reputation for academic achievement, topping the Walsall league tables not only for raw GCSE results (76% A/A*, or 7-9 at GCSE in 2017) but also for the new GCSE Progress 8 measure (0.69 in 2017). The Chemistry department is proud of its achievements too, with 76% of students achieving grades A*-A at GCSE and 94% achieving A*-C at A level in the subject in 2017. It is no surprise, then, that it is amongst the most popular A Level subjects in the school and there will be six sets in both Year 12 and Year 13 in 2018/19. The department is a happy and rewarding place to work and with many of our students continuing to study in a related field post-18.
Now is an exciting time in the history of Queen Mary’s Grammar School. We are proud to be part of the Mercian Multi Academy Trust alongside four other schools which represent a diverse range of educational establishments: Aldridge School, Queen Mary’s High School, Shire Oak Academy and Walsall Studio School; this partnership brings many advantages to our pupils present and future; as well as broadening the opportunities and experiences for staff. Please see the accompanying information in the full application pack for further information about the Mercian Multi Academy Trust.
Informal visits to the school are welcomed and encouraged. Please feel free to contact Carol Wood, Human Resources Executive, at the School, if you are interested in visiting us.
Applications should be made using the application form available via the TES website, accompanied by a supporting statement of no more than two sides of A4 in which you should set out how your experience and expertise match the requirements of the role.
Closing date: Wednesday 25th April
Interviews: W/C Monday 30th April
