Teacher of Chinese

MPR

Full-time or Part-time (0.6 FTE)

Required for Spring Term 2018 or earlier

We now require an enthusiastic and well-qualified teacher of Mandarin to join our outstanding Languages Department.

As well as teaching Chinese Mandarin, Anglo European is also a Confucius Classroom, manages the Essex-Jiangsu Resources Centre and delivers the DFE Mandarin Excellence programme, which involves supporting other local schools in the teaching of Mandarin. You will be expected to promote the teaching and learning of Mandarin Chinese language and culture in Essex, and facilitate cross-cultural exchanges. The school has three partner schools in China and regularly visits the country as part of the school’s extensive visits and exchanges programme.

The school is looking for a teacher who has a track record of successful practice in the classroom and has the ability to work effectively with other colleagues to support the development of Chinese Mandarin at AES and in our partner schools. This involves a wide-ranging programme of enrichment.

This is an exciting opportunity for a teacher of Mandarin to join a successful and diverse team of language specialists in a school which believes strongly in all children learning a minimum of two languages and offering 7 different languages at GCSE. Mandarin is taught currently in Year 7 and 8 as part of the Mandarin Excellence Programme. It is already taught at GCSE and in the 6th form as part of the International Baccalaureate and abinitio.

In 2017 82% of students gained GCSE A*/A in Mandarin and 100% of our students achieved A*-C. IBS AbInitio, 100% students gained 5+ and 60% 6+

The Anglo European School is a comprehensive school with a curriculum informed by a strong international dimension and with students who demonstrate outstanding personal development. All members of staff working at the school support the aims and ethos of the school and participate in the extensive visits programme.

The Anglo European School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

About Anglo European School

Anglo European School is a 11-19, co-educational comprehensive school situated in Ingatestone, Essex. It has approximately 1,415 students.

The school was opened in 1973 after the closure of a secondary modern school led locals to campaign to keep the school open and the Local Authority, Essex, decided to establish a school with a “European Dimension”.

Anglo European School serves local needs but also draw students from across Essex and parts of London. In 1977 it became the first UK state school to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma and in 1995 the first comprehensive school to become a specialist Language college. In 2005 the school established the first co-headship model in a state secondary school.

As a centre of excellence for language learning, the school offers Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish as well as English as an Additional Language and Latin.  Up until age 16 all students study two languages other than English.

In the sixth form, students must study one language. They have a choice of A-levels or an opportunity to study the International Baccalaureate Diploma. There is also the chance to study selected parts of the IB Diploma with A-levels. In addition, the International Baccalaureate Career Programme provides an internationally recognised vocational qualification.
