Job overview

Teacher of Chinese

September 2017 or January 2018

Radley College and Oxford High School are delighted to be working with the Swire Chinese Language Foundation as part of their national scheme for the encouragement of the Chinese language. The aim is to set up programmes in partnership with local schools which allow students from all backgrounds to learn Chinese and, over time, for these programmes to be self-sustaining. It is a powerful and exciting vision.

We are looking for a full-time Teacher of Chinese to start in September 2017, with the primary aim to introduce Chinese as a mainstream subject to Year 7 students at our two new hub schools St. Birinus School (Didcot, Oxfordshire) and Desborough College (Maidenhead, Berkshire).

We are flexible on the start date and would consider a January start date for the right candidate.  Candidates are also welcome to start before September to assist with the formulation of a robust Scheme of Work if they wish to do so.  Please indicate this in your application.

Further details, including an application form, are on the school’s website: www.radley.org.uk/Teaching-Vacancies. The deadline for applications is 25 June 2017. Interviews will take place on 27 June 2017.

Radley College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Values and vision

Radley College has several strategic priorities. Firstly, it seeks to foster a sense of intellectual curiosity amongst its students. The school intends to develop this through its curriculum, exchanges, trips, academic partnerships, online learning, language teaching, societies, and invited speakers.

The school’s highest priority remains its provision of effective pastoral care. It aims to, underpinned by its Christian ethos, strive to develop values, confidence, and resilience in students which will strengthen and prepare them for future challenges they face. In addition, the school aims to accomplish the goal of preparing students for later life through its provision of careers advice, university preparation, curriculum innovation, and effective links with its former pupils. At the school there is also a keenness to embrace technology when it comes to teaching.
