Job overview
We are looking for a talented and dedicated Classics teacher to join our Classics department from September 2022.
Classics is an integral part of life at Redmaids’ High school, where lessons are designed to build on the students’ natural curiosity in the world before them, establishing a firm grounding in key cultural ideas and perspectives, whilst using a hands-on, practical style of teaching. The successful candidate will be passionate and will help students explore the subject in a dynamic and creative way.
Redmaids’ High School is the leading independent day school for girls in Bristol and one of the leading schools in the South West and was formed following the merger in 2016 of The Red Maids’ School and Redland High School. It is a member of the Girls’ School Association and is the oldest surviving girls’ school in Great Britain, having been established in 1634.
Today, with supportive, inspirational staff and a progressive mindset, we celebrate our girls’ individuality. With excellent facilities and wide-ranging opportunities, we help them become inspirational young women with a global outlook, fully equipped for whatever path they choose in life.
A covering letter of no more than two sides addressed to the Head, Mr Paul Dwyer, should accompany application forms. Please send to Jenny Bell at j_bell@redmaidshigh.co.uk
Closing date: Monday 23rd May 2022.
Redmaids’ High School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. In accordance with our Child Protection Policy, we are unable to process applications without a fully completed application form. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. All convictions, cautions and bind-overs, including those regarded as ‘spent’, must be declared when applying. The applicant may post such a declaration in an envelope marked ‘Private & Confidential for the Head’, which will only be opened should the candidate be shortlisted. The successful applicant must obtain List 99 clearance and DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) clearance at enhanced level.

Welcome to Redmaids’ High
We were formed in 2016 from the merger of two of the South West’s finest girls’ schools - The Red Maids’ School and Redland High School for Girls. This has given us a unique viewpoint.
Our combined history of over 500 years provides proven experience and expertise in educating girls. At the same time, as a ‘new’ school, we have been revitalised with a fresh, dynamic purpose.
Altogether a better education for girls
Of course, our school has developed well beyond the imagination of the original founders. The world-class opportunities in science and technology we now provide could never have been dreamed of all those years ago. Our facilities have blossomed into the very best learning environments, allowing our girls to excel not only academically but also in sport, drama, art and music. The international links we have developed over the years and our thriving alumni network are an integral part of the school and a hugely valuable asset for all our students.
A stepping-stone for a satisfying life
All this adds up to Redmaids’ High School being one of the finest girls’ schools in the UK. The opportunities and facilities we provide equip our young women with the skills and confidence to truly make their mark in today’s world.
